The 10 to 12 inch rule
1. Start with seat height
Measure from the floor to the top of your desk, then subtract 10″ to 12″. That gap leaves room for your knees under the desk and keeps your arms relaxed while you blend. Our vanity desks are 31.9″ tall (the Majesti and Astra are about 34.4″), so most people are comfortable on a seat 20″ to 22″ high.
A fixed stool at 17.7″ sits a little lower than that. It works well if you are tall, if your desk is lower, or if you mostly sit for a few minutes at a time. If you spend a long time at your vanity, a height-adjustable chair lets you fine-tune it.
2. Chair or stool?
- Swivel vanity chair: back support, adjustable height and a 360° turn, so you can reach drawers or a storage tower beside the desk. Best for long routines.
- Vanity stool: smaller, and it tucks fully under the desk when you are done. Best for small bedrooms and closets.
3. Storage and extras
